Philippine Team Eleazar Barba in Lane 2 during Group A Semifinal Round

October 31-November 1, 2009, Hong Kong - 20 year old Eleazar Barba from Dumaguete City of the Philippine Team advanced to the semifinal round from a field of 19 riders at the 4th Asian BMX Championship. 17 year old Joseph Hormillosa from Iloilo City, the only Challenge Level entry in the Elite Class also advanced to the semifinal round from a low turnout of only 10 riders at the HSBC Hong Kong BMX Open 2009. Steven Wong from Hong Kong won this year's Asian BMX Championship four years in a row while Yvan Lapraz, the UCI Men Junior World Champion in 2007, won the HSBC Hong Kong Open 2009.

The first time the Philippines sent a delegation to compete in an international BMX competition - 4th Asian BMX Championships and HSBC Hong Kong BMX Open 2009. Gabe Trias headed the delegation with 3 top riders from the Philippines: Jefferson Odviar from Rosario, Cavite, Eleazar Barba, Jr. from Dumaguete City and Joseph Hormillosa from Iloilo City.
